Student Successes..
2020-2021 - I focused a lot on relationships this year. My relationship buildings skills and strategies were challenged this year when an argumentative and disruptive girl entered my classroom on the first day of school. She had a hard time academically with her main struggle areas being ELA, Spelling, and Writing. Her tactic for avoiding these subject areas was to becoming increasingly disruptive until she was either sent out or to shut down completely and become very defiant. I learned her techniques quickly but struggled with how to handle them appropriately. At one point I "gave up" took a step back and just decided to focus on our relationship. It wasn't until we developed a bond and I began learning very important things about her that then helped me understand how to best handle her breakdowns in class. I came up with strategies and techniques that worked effectively and efficiently to stop her from shutting down. I understood that she struggled with fears and anxieties and she could not always verbalizes her feelings or what she was struggling with and that she often needed breaks to get her thoughts together and so that is what I was able to give her. That is how we went from having daily breakdowns and office visits to getting through full lessons, then days, and on to full weeks of not having a single problem. Her confidence grew and so did her academics. That is when I truly understood the importance of good, positive relationships.
As a teacher and school employee, I always knew how important it was to have a good relationship with your students. I start each year building relationships and making connections to lay the foundation for a successful school year together. The relationship with this student was more important than I could ever imagine, though. The time and attention I gave our relationship helped her become a better student and eventually it helped her receive the necessary support to develop life long skills to better her future. On the first day of school we may have not known what this year was going to hold. It was a challenging road, but today I am proud to call her my student and I hope she is proud to call me her teacher.
2021-2022-I continued my focus on relationships this year as I feel they are one of the most important parts of this career. I expanded my relationship reach from just bonding with my students to increasing active communication with their parents and developing my professional relationships with my colleagues and grade-level team. I felt that this has been my best year yet as a teacher. My confidence has grown, and I am truly so happy going to work every day. I think focusing on myself as one of my inquiries this term helped my get the confidence and happiness that I currently feel. Teacher wellness and relationships are top of my priority lists as a teacher now.
I am looking forward to what my future career as a teacher has in store for me. I am very excited for this journey.

The Wise Words of a Leader in Education..
"Miss Lee shows great strength in the area of creating and maintaining an effective learning environment. She engages her students during each lesson with strategies that have students respectfully talking to her and each other. Rarely does Miss Lee have to stop the learning to refocus or redirect students. Having said that, she has had some challenging students in her class, but her methods make learning mandatory without being mean. In addition, she always has procedures in place that students have taken ownership of truly empowering them to make it their classroom. This has promoted respect for each other, the class environment, and Miss Lee as their teacher. " - Charlotte Klinock - Principal
